Griffintown - From industrial area to urban district!

Wednesday June 24, 2015

Griffintown - From industrial area to urban district! Griffintown is now undergoing unprecedented urban development.

Formerly a working-class neighbourhood in the southwest of Montreal, Griffintown is now undergoing unprecedented urban development.

Close to 2,600 living units have been built in the area since 2011, and different, ambitious real estate projectslike YOO Montreal are set to put the finishing touches on the new residential neighbourhood Griffintown has become. Seeing the area’s immense potential, the City will soon invest some $93 million to build parks and redevelop public spaces. These new developments will enhance the neighbourhood’s ever-growing number of local stores and living spaces, providing a quality of life that is second to none and which infuses historical heritage with an energy of renewal.

Ideally located in the heart of Montreal, just steps away from Downtown and along the Lachine Canal, Griffintown is becoming known as a versatile living environment that is both friendly and luxurious.

Inspired by Philippe Starck, YOO Montreal’s different styles fittingly reflect Griffintown’s personality, which brings culture, minimalism and nature together in an urban setting. With its industrial-era architectural heritage and the cultural interest of places like the Darling Foundry, New City Gas and Arsenal, Griffintown is well-positioned to become an area where neighbourhood living is filled with possibilities.

What’s more, the borough intends to launch long-term transformation projects that will further enrich the neighbourhood, in keeping with a sustainable “inhabited street” vision focusing on pedestrians. Several streets, including Montfort, Wellington, Ottawa, Smith and Saint-Paul, will be redeveloped so residents and visitors can fully enjoy the local stores, bars and restaurants.

Furthermore, permeability between the neighbourhood and the Lachine Canal is a borough priority, and several projects to make the Lachine Canal even more accessible to residents will be implemented in the next few years.

YOO Montreal’s new residents will be able to enjoy Philippe Starck luxury in a lively and friendly neighbourhood, just steps from Downtown!
